Kidney stones are crystalline deposits that can potentially plug the ureter, resulting in severe pain and potential kidney damage.

 

This is a two-page editorial spread to teach an educated lay audience about the etiology and pathogenesis of kidney stone disease at the micro- and macroscale levels.

The illustration explores the various types of kidney stones and their underlying causes, as well as additional risk factors that can increase the chance for kidney stone development.
